JAJ Sliding Gate Openers NZ

GoodsDirect2U supplies JAJ sliding gate openers for New Zealand homes, farms, lifestyle blocks, rural entrances, driveways and commercial properties. A sliding gate opener is used to automate a gate that moves sideways along a track, with the motor driving the gate through a rack fitted to the gate frame.

Our range includes sliding gate motors, sliding gate rack, sliding gate track, remotes, solar options, WiFi accessories, safety beams, keypads, push buttons, spare parts and installation accessories. GoodsDirect2U has sold hundreds of JAJ gate openers throughout New Zealand over more than 10 years, giving customers a proven and reliable option when the opener is matched correctly to the gate.

Choosing the right sliding gate opener depends on the gate weight, gate length, track condition, wheel condition, rack type, power supply, site conditions and how freely the gate rolls.

Check the Gate Before Fitting a Sliding Gate Opener

A sliding gate opener should not be used to force a gate that is hard to move manually. Before fitting a sliding gate opener, the gate should roll freely along the track without dragging, jumping, binding or needing heavy force to open or close.

The gate should be level, the track should be clean and straight, and the wheels, guides and end stops should be in good condition. If the gate is hard to move, out of level, catching, binding, running on damaged wheels or rolling on a poor track, the gate should be repaired or adjusted before fitting a motor.

A smooth, well-aligned sliding gate will normally give better motor performance, reduce strain on the gearbox and help extend the life of the gate automation system.

Choosing the Right Sliding Gate Opener Setup

Before ordering, check the gate length, gate weight, track condition, wheel condition, rack requirements, power supply, expected daily use and whether you need accessories such as remotes, safety beams, WiFi control, keypads, push buttons or solar power.

The gate should roll freely by hand before an opener is fitted. The sliding gate motor should be matched to the gate weight and usage, the rack should suit the gate weight, and the track should be straight, level and long enough for the gate to fully open and close.

Sliding Gate Rack Requirements

Sliding gate openers need suitable rack fitted to the gate. The rack is fixed along the gate and meshes with the gear on the sliding gate motor, allowing the motor to drive the gate open and closed.

Our sliding gate rack is sold in 1 metre lengths. There are two rack models available: NR01 for gates below 800kg, and NR02 for gates above 800kg.

NR01 is a nylon rack suitable for lighter sliding gates below 800kg. NR02 is designed for heavier gates above 800kg and has a steel core with a nylon outer, giving extra strength while still meshing with the sliding gate motor gear.

The total length of rack should generally match the length of the gate, so the motor gear remains engaged with the rack through the full opening and closing travel. For example, a 4 metre sliding gate would generally require around 4 metres of rack.

When ordering, check the gate length and make sure you have enough rack for the full travel of the gate. The rack should be installed straight and correctly aligned with the motor gear so the gate can move smoothly without binding.

Sliding Gate Track Requirements

If you also need sliding gate track, the track is sold in 1 metre lengths and comes with mounting dyna bolts. The track gives the gate wheels a straight and stable path to roll along.

As a general guide, the total length of sliding gate track should be around double the length of the gate. This allows the gate to sit across the driveway when closed and roll back far enough to fully open.

For example, a 4 metre gate would generally need around 8 metres of track. Site layout, gate design and opening clearance should be checked before ordering track.

The track should be installed straight, level and securely fixed. Poor track alignment can make the gate hard to move and place extra load on the sliding gate opener.

Power Supply and Solar Options

Sliding gate openers can be powered in different ways depending on the model and site. Some systems use low voltage power, some can be set up with solar and battery options, and some use AC/mains power where a suitable power supply or weather-protected socket is available.

Low voltage systems may use AC or DC power depending on the model, so always check the product specifications before ordering. Solar options are useful where mains power is not available near the gate, where trenching cable would be difficult, or where the gate is located away from buildings.

For our standard 30W solar kits, we generally recommend around 6 to 8 openings per day. If the gate will be used more often than this, additional solar panels or batteries may be required depending on the gate opener model, gate size, accessories, sunlight, site conditions and daily use.

Accessories can also affect solar performance. If you are adding safety beams, keypads, receivers, WiFi dongles or other accessories to a solar setup, check the product description to see whether a solar upgrade, extra battery capacity or additional panels are recommended.

Any mains wiring or electrical connection work should be carried out by a suitably qualified person where required.

Sliding Gate Opener Controls and Accessories

Accessories can make a sliding gate opener setup easier to use and more practical for everyday access. Extra remotes are useful for family members, staff, tenants, regular users or additional vehicles.

Keypads are useful for visitor access, contractors, deliveries or sites where you do not want to hand out extra remotes. Wired push buttons can also be useful where ease of access is preferred and security is not a major factor.

Safety beams or photocells can help detect vehicles, people, pets or objects in the gate path. These are highly recommended for properties with children or animals, and for entrances where there is a chance that people, vehicles or pets may stop in the gate opening while the gate is operating.

WiFi dongles are available for compatible gate openers and work like a remote-style trigger for the gate. The dongle connects to WiFi and can provide longer-distance operation than a standard handheld remote in some setups. If connected to the internet and set up correctly through the phone app, the gate can also be opened remotely from your phone, even when you are away from the property.

Sliding gate openers also include pedestrian mode. This allows the gate to open part way for foot traffic, rather than opening the full gate every time. This can be useful for homes, workshops, staff access, visitors and situations where people need to walk through without driving a vehicle in or out.

Choosing the Right Sliding Gate Opener Setup

Before ordering, check the gate length, gate weight, track condition, wheel condition, power supply, expected daily use and whether you need rack, track or accessories. The gate should roll freely by hand before an opener is fitted.

If the gate does not already have suitable rack, you will need sliding gate rack to match the gate length. If the gate does not already have suitable track, you may also need sliding gate track, generally around double the length of the gate.

If you are unsure which JAJ sliding gate opener is right for your property, contact GoodsDirect2U for product advice. Let us know the gate length, gate weight, whether the gate already has track and rack, how freely it rolls, your power supply options and expected daily use.
